Couple Jenny and Kate are foster carers here in Blaenau Gwent.
the foster family
Jenny and Kate have been together for seven years, and have fostered for four.
“It’s been a four-year whirlwind but we wouldn’t have had it any other way.”
Kate and Jenny felt they had valuable experience from their jobs as a housing officer and a support worker for children with disabilities that would help them on the fostering road ahead. That being said, it was the training and support from their Local Authority that really prepared them for fostering.
“If you need any help, they’re always there to support you or give advice.”
“just seeing them happy makes me happy”
Kate and Jenny have fostered children of all ages – from toddlers to teenagers, and sometimes siblings together. Right now, they care for Lilly aged 16 and a young brother and sister who live with their grandparents but sometimes stay with Kate and Jenny at weekends.
“We’ve got quite close over the years with their grandparents, it’s become like one big extended family.”
“we’re giving these children a chance to be children”
With support from our Foster Wales Blaenau Gwent team and our local network of fellow foster carers, Jenny and Kate care for children with all sorts of backgrounds and individual needs.
“We give them a start in life, with all the love and affection they need.”

Find out more about fostering and what it could mean for you. Our fostering success stories are based on the real-life experiences of Local Authority Foster Carers in Wales. To protect their privacy, and the privacy of the children and young people to whom they provide care, love, and support, all the names have been changed and actors have stepped in to help us tell their amazing stories.
